This is a rare transitional-era unit manufactured in Taiwan in 1981 with a paper serial number. Back in the early 1980s, the DS-1 and SD-1 were produced in Taiwan for only a brief period. Furthermore, the body of the unit features a multi-layered (white) finish, making it exceptionally unique.Its sound—featuring a moderately gritty distortion suited for hard rock and a tone circuit with a wide range of adjustment—has captivated many big-name guitarists, including Gary Moore, Steve Vai, and Kurt Cobain. It offers a sound completely different from the current DS-1; I believe this model has a rounder distortion that evokes the hard rock of the 1980s.It shows general signs of use but functions perfectly.
