Water geven voor Monstera Variegata

Geef je Monstera Variegata matig water en laat de bovenste laag potgrond licht uitdrogen tussen gietbeurten. Zo voorkom je wortelrot en blijven de bladeren stevig en glanzend. In de lente en zomer kun je iets vaker water geven, terwijl de plant in de winterperiode minder vocht nodig heeft.

Licht voor Monstera Variegata

Monstera Variegata groeit het beste in helder, indirect licht en vermijdt direct zonlicht dat de bladeren kan verbranden. Plaats je plant daarom bij een raam op het oosten of westen, of enkele meters van een zuidelijke vensterbank. Ook in wat schaduwrijke hoekjes uit de volle zon blijft deze gatenplant het doorgaans goed doen.

Veelvoorkomende problemen

Gele bladeren

Gele bladeren bij je Monstera Variegata wijzen vaak op te veel water of te weinig licht. Controleer je gietroutine en pas indien nodig aan door minder water te geven of de plant wat meer licht te bieden. Verwijder gele bladeren tijdig om energie vrij te maken voor nieuwe groei.

Plant druppelt

Als je plant druppeltjes sap afscheidt, kan dat duiden op teveel water in de stengels of loogvorming aan het bladoppervlak. Veeg overtollig vocht voorzichtig weg en controleer de watergift. Een betere luchtcirculatie en iets drogere potgrond voorkomen herhaling.

Plagen

Ondanks zijn robuuste uiterlijk kunnen spintmijten, trips of wolluis zich vestigen op de Monstera Variegata. Inspecteer de onderkant van de bladeren regelmatig en behandel bij detectie met natuurlijke middelen of een plantenhanger om de hele plant te bereiken. Goede luchtvochtigheid en af en toe afnemen van het blad verkleinen de kans op plagen.

Wortels komen onder uit de plant

Bij gezonde Monsteraplanten groeien soms luchtwortels en wortels uit de drainagegaten. Dit is meestal geen probleem, want de wortels zoeken extra voeding en stevigheid. Verpot je Monstera Variegata naar een iets grotere pot of zorg voor passende steun zoals een mosstok, zodat hij verder kan groeien.

Bruine randen

Bruine bladranden ontstaan vaak door te droge lucht, te warme radiatoren of onregelmatige gietbeurten. Verhoog de luchtvochtigheid met een plantenvernevelaar of plaats de pot op een bak met hydrokorrels en water. Zorg voor een gelijkmatige bewatering en vermijd plekken vlak bij warmtebronnen. Bij de variegata kan dit soms ook komen door een gebrek aan licht. 

Soorten en verwante gatenplanten

Ook verwante schaduw- en luchtzuiverende planten passen goed bij de Monstera Variegata. Denk aan de luchtwortels van Epipremnum Pinnatum Aureum of de slanke groei van de Dracaena Marginata. Voor een kleurrijke afwisseling kies je de opvallende bladeren van de Aglaonema Silver Bay.

Arrived Battery DOA - But then something unexpected happened.
This was a one star review because the unit arrived with a batter that would not hold charge for more than a minute. I am not changing the stars, because if you are like me, you read the one star reviews cause so many companies pay for fake 4 and 5 star reviews. When I first posted this review I also initiated a return and just planned to move on to another brand. I was surprised when I got a personal email from the Arctek Service Team offering to send me a replacement free of charge. With nothing to lose I figured why not? The new unit arrived and I put a full charge on it and put it to work. I chose this keyboard because it is the closest in layout to the original Microsoft ergo split keyboard, no longer in production, that I have used for years and truly enjoy. I am pleased to report that the battery is working fine and the keyboard performs flawlessly. No skipped strokes or stuck keys, no glitches with the proprietary wireless interface to the laptop (when I am using it on the desk with a large screen). My hat is off to the Arctek service team and management. A company that cares enough about its reputation and customers to go to so much effort to take care of a customer with such a small dollar item sale is a company you can expect to rely on. From now on when I want electronic gear on Amazon, I am going to use the word Arctek in my search.

1 year update: I have been using this keyboard daily at work for almost one year and my 5 star review stands. It also has rubber grippers on the bottom so it stays firmly in place on my desk and doesn’t move around like my old keyboard did. I went for this one because I didn’t want to spend $100+ on a keyboard and I’m really impressed with the quality.

A great laptop stand
At first, I was skeptical of the price, especially when I opened up the box and what I was presented with was nothing but a thick chunk of shaped metal. However, now that I've been using this for a bit of time, I can attest to it's quality: 1. This thing is STURDY. One of my children is a curious (read: nosy) four year old who loves to inspect anything she can get her hands on. No amount of her typing, tugging, pulling or otherwise manipulation of the work laptop upon this stand has budged it in the slightest. Unless you are (an adult) intentionally trying to remove the laptop from the stand, your computer is very stable. 2. It's actually great for hiding wires. It has a hole in the back for tunneling wires towards/away from the computer, and this stand being the hunk of metal that it is, does a nice job obscuring such wires, which gives the stand a nice, clean look on a desk with a little bit of care. For some people, this matters a lot, which gives this stand an edge over the more architecturally sparse stands on Amazon. 3. The space between the "legs" of the stand and the "floor" where your computer rests is a great place to hide your phone while getting work done. I put mine on a charger and hide my phone there, which is really nice for limiting any tendencies to check my phone when I have a lull in my attention span. Since you can't see the phone when it rests there, but you can still hear it, I found myself pleasantly surprised that this stand could enable better productivity from my bad habits. It's a good stand and it's worth the money, especially if you have dual monitors and/or you're trying to improve the ergonomics of your workspace.
